Amina bint Wahb

Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the father of Prophet Muhammad, was the son whose life was spared when his father's vow of sacrifice fell first on him. He married Amina bint Wahb and died on a journey while she was pregnant with, or had just borne, their son.

Amina bint Wahb ibn Abd Manaf al-Zuhriyya, of the Banu Zuhrah, was the mother of Prophet Muhammad. Widowed before or shortly after his birth, she raised him for six years before her own death at al-Abwa, on the road between Mecca and Medina.

Umm Ayman, born Baraka, served three generations of the Prophet Muhammad household as nurse and freedwoman: she suckled the infant Prophet, accompanied his mother Amina to her death, cared for him as an orphan, and later married Zayd ibn Harithah.
