Conquest of Syria

Ikrima ibn Abi Jahl (d. 13 AH / 634 CE) was the son of Abu Jahl and among the most determined Meccan opponents of Prophet Muhammad, condemned to death at the conquest of Mecca. Pardoned at his wife's plea, he accepted Islam, commanded armies in the Ridda Wars, and was killed fighting in Syria.

Sa'id ibn Zayd (c. 600-671 CE) was an early convert to Islam and one of the Ten Promised Paradise. Son of the pre-Islamic monotheist Zayd ibn Amr and brother-in-law of Umar ibn al-Khattab, he helped spark Umar's conversion and fought in the conquest of Syria.
