Hejaz

Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr (624–692 CE) was the first child born to the Muhajirun in Medina, grandson of Abu Bakr and son of Zubayr ibn al-Awwam. He declared himself caliph in Mecca against the Umayyads, ruling much of the empire for a decade before his death in 692 CE.

Selim I (1470-1520) ruled for eight years and doubled the Ottoman Empire, defeating the Safavids at Chaldiran in 1514 and conquering the Mamluk Sultanate of Syria, Egypt and the Hejaz in 1516-17. The claim that the caliphate was formally transferred to him is a later invention.
