Convivencia, meaning living together, describes relations between the Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities of Al-Andalus between 711 and 1492. Distinct in identity but joined in commerce and learning, they produced a common Andalusi culture.

Safiyya bint Huyayy was a wife of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and one of the Mothers of the Believers. Born into the Banu Nadir, one of the Jewish tribes of Medina, she entered the Prophet's household after the reduction of Khaybar in 7 AH.

The legal status accorded to Christians, Jews and other recognised religious minorities under Islamic rule. It secured life, property, worship and communal autonomy in return for a special tax and defined restrictions, and lasted into the twentieth century.
