Islamic hospitals (bimaristans) revolutionized medical care, introducing medical education, clinical training, specialized departments, and comprehensive patient care. These institutions combined healing with teaching and research centuries ahead of their time.

Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari (1880–1936) was an Indian physician and nationalist leader who served as president of both the All India Muslim League (1918, 1920) and the Indian National Congress (Madras, 1927). A surgeon trained in Edinburgh and London, he led the Indian Medical Mission to Turkey during the Balkan Wars of 1912–13, was a founder and later Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, and spent his career arguing for Hindu-Muslim unity within a single Indian nationalism.
