Masjid al-Nabawi

Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque) in Medina is the second holiest mosque in Islam. Founded by Prophet Muhammad in 622 CE after the Hijra, it served as the center of the early Muslim community and contains the Prophet's tomb beneath the Green Dome.

Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik (c. 668-715 CE) was the Umayyad caliph under whose reign the Islamic empire reached its greatest territorial extent — with simultaneous conquests in Spain, North Africa, Central Asia, and India — and who built some of Islam's greatest architectural monuments.
