Hakim Ajmal Khan: Physician, Nationalist, and Champion of Indigenous Medicine
PersonHakim Ajmal Khan (1863–1927) was an Indian physician, nationalist leader, and institution-builder who founded the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College in Delhi, served as the first Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (1920–1927), and presided over the Indian National Congress at its Ahmedabad session in 1921. A practitioner of Unani medicine from a distinguished family of Mughal-era court physicians, he became one of the principal figures of the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation movements and devoted his career to both the revival of indigenous Indian medicine and Hindu-Muslim unity in the nationalist cause.

InstitutionHamdard Laboratories (India) is a Unani pharmaceutical company and welfare institution founded in 1906 in Old Delhi by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed. Beginning as a small clinic in the lanes of historic Delhi, it grew under the leadership of his sons Hakeem Abdul Hameed and Hakim Mohammed Said into one of the subcontinent's most recognised producers of Unani medicines, and was transformed into a waqf (charitable endowment) in 1948. Its products — most notably Rooh Afza, created in 1907 — became household names across South Asia. The institution also established Jamia Hamdard, a deemed university in Delhi.
