Hakim Ajmal Khan (1863–1927) was an Indian physician, nationalist leader, and institution-builder who founded the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College in Delhi, served as the first Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (1920–1927), and presided over the Indian National Congress at its Ahmedabad session in 1921. A practitioner of Unani medicine from a distinguished family of Mughal-era court physicians, he became one of the principal figures of the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation movements and devoted his career to both the revival of indigenous Indian medicine and Hindu-Muslim unity in the nationalist cause.

Syed Mahmud (1889–1971) was an Indian politician, barrister, and senior Congress leader from Bihar who served as a member of the Foundation Committee of Jamia Millia Islamia (1920), General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (1929–1936), Education Minister of Bihar (1937–1939), and Union Minister of State for External Affairs (1954–1957). A close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, he participated in the Khilafat, Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, and Quit India movements, and represented India at the Bandung Conference in 1955.
