The Life of the Prophet

The Sirah, from Mecca to the Farewell Pilgrimage

The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the pivot of Islamic history. Across twenty-three years of revelation, a persecuted circle of believers in Mecca became a community governed by covenant in Medina, and by his death in 11 AH the greater part of Arabia had entered Islam. The events of that life — the first revelation, the years of endurance, the migration, the treaties, the battles, and the return to Mecca — are studied not as distant episodes but as the framework within which Islamic law, ethics, and governance were formed.

This collection follows that arc in sequence. It gathers the Meccan years and the Hijra that divided them from what followed, the Constitution of Medina that bound a plural city into one polity, the defensive battles of Badr, Uhud, and Khandaq, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah and the conquest of Mecca that fulfilled it, and the Farewell Pilgrimage in which the Prophet set out the community's obligations for the last time. The cities and sanctuaries central to that life are included alongside the events themselves.
